An extensive two-month cruise around Australia is being halted days after the death of an older woman who was stranded by the vessel on a distant island.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on the tropical location with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a break. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back after some time after the personnel became aware the woman was missing.

A major search operation located her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, together with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Head of the cruise operator said that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the voyage had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that passengers would be issued a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also published an updated communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its coming back.

The liner initially left Cairns on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the journey at the time of the 80-year-old's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Travelers on the ship - who usually pay tens of thousands of money to join the cruise - were transported there for a day trip with the choice of hiking or snorkeling.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "stunned and saddened that the vessel left the location after an organised tour without my parent".
